In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Inkle, band or tape weaving arrived from Europe landing in America with the Pennsylvanian Germans. These long thin tapes were used to tie items together for carrying, for keeping clothing on, for decorative trim on curtains and much more.

Today’s handwoven inkle bands are key chains, eyeglass cords, bookmarks, lanyards, guitar straps, dog leashes and more. During this workshop you will make a bookmark, maybe two! The inkle looms will be warped, all set up and ready for you to weave your very own bookmark(s)!

This 2-hour workshop will be held at the Newport Harbor Island Resort, 1 Goat Island , Newport RI on Saturday, November 15th at 10:00 am.

This is a beginner class. No experience is necessary.

Price includes use of loom, materials and instructions.

Tuition: $60 per person
